About the property
Named for the writer whose parents fell in love on the shores of Rudyard Lake, Kipling Lodge offers families and groups a characterful retreat on the western doorstep of the Peak District. This timber lodge sits within landscaped grounds just minutes from the lake that inspired John Lockwood and Alice Kipling to name their famous son. The Rudyard Hotel welcomes guests for evening meals, a three-minute stroll away, whilst the lakeside trails and miniature steam railway provide gentler entertainment on your doorstep.
Step inside, and the warmth greets you immediately. Underfloor heating throughout keeps feet comfortable on the wood-effect flooring, a thoughtful touch on cooler Staffordshire mornings. The hallway opens into a fabulous open-plan living space where kitchen, dining and seating areas flow naturally together.
The country-style kitchen features oak units and marble-effect worktops, with all the appliances needed for holiday cooking. A dining table seats six comfortably, perfect for sharing home-cooked meals or planning breakfast and the day's adventures. The sitting area offers two comfortable sofas facing a TV, with large French windows framing views across the enclosed garden.
Three bedrooms provide flexible sleeping arrangements. Two king-size doubles suit couples, whilst an adult bunks room accommodates friends or older children. The master enjoys a contemporary en-suite shower room, with a family shower room serving the remaining bedrooms.
Two dogs are welcome here, with an enclosed garden providing security and a shared grass area offering space to stretch legs. A gate leads directly to Rudyard Lake, where trails wind along the water's edge and through the surrounding woodland.
The sheltered hot tub sits on the side deck, protected from the elements for year-round enjoyment. Sink into the bubbling water after a day exploring the Peak District's trails and feel tired muscles relax as the Staffordshire sky puts on its evening display.
From this base, options multiply in every direction. Rudyard Lake itself provides walking, fishing and boating, with the steam railway offering nostalgic rides along the water's edge. The market town of Leek rewards exploration with its antique shops and traditional pubs. The Manifold Valley promises stunning scenery for walkers and cyclists of all abilities.
For longer day trips, the Peak District National Park lies just beyond the eastern horizon. Dovedale's famous stepping stones, the caves of Castleton and the elegant streets of Buxton all await discovery. Kipling Lodge combines characterful accommodation with a location that genuine adventurers will appreciate. Like its namesake's stories, it invites exploration.
