About the property
Perched on a Derbyshire hillside with uninterrupted views across the Derwent Valley, Holbein offers couples a genuinely unique glamping experience on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park. This cedar-built pod sits in splendid isolation on privately owned land near Hackney, a short walk from the River Derwent. A 300-metre stroll with a gentle incline leads you away from the parking area to your retreat, creating that immediate sense of escape that makes the difference between a good break and a memorable one.
Step inside and the curved timber interior immediately impresses. The studio layout is cleverly designed, with a kitchen area fully equipped for self-catering, a dining space for two, and a sitting area anchored by a woodburning stove. On cooler evenings, there is something wonderfully atmospheric about the crackle of flames in the glow of the curved cedar walls. Large windows and glass doors frame those Derbyshire views, flooding the space with natural light by day and providing a backdrop of rolling hills as dusk falls. The sleeping area features a comfortable double bed, whilst a barn door leads to a compact shower room with everything you need.
Outside, the decked terrace offers a front-row seat to the Peak District landscape. But the undisputed star is the wood-fired hot tub. There is a particular pleasure in firing it up yourself, watching the steam rise as the water heats, then sinking in as the sun dips behind the hills. With no other properties in sight, the sense of privacy is complete.
From this central location, the Peak District's famous attractions lie within easy reach. Chatsworth House offers grand architecture and beautiful gardens just a short drive away. Crich Tramway Village provides nostalgic charm, whilst Haddon Hall showcases medieval and Tudor architecture in an enchanting setting. The historic spa town of Matlock itself rewards exploration, with its Victorian riverside streets and proximity to the Heights of Abraham cable cars.
For walkers, countless trails wind through the surrounding countryside. For those seeking relaxation, there is little more satisfying than returning to your private hillside retreat, firing up the hot tub, and watching the stars emerge above the Derbyshire dales. Holbein delivers something different. Part pod, part cabin, entirely memorable.
